Improving your HRV naturally: everyday levers

Heart rate variability is one of the most monitored markers in recovery. Here are the simple habits that influence it, and the role of sleep in the equation.

Reminder: what HRV is

Heart rate variability (HRV) measures the variations in time between each heartbeat. Unlike heart rate, which counts the number of beats per minute, it observes the differences between successive intervals. A relatively high HRV reflects a flexible autonomic nervous system, capable of adapting to demands.

Why follow her

To adjust his recovery

HRV gives an idea of your daily fitness level. It helps you decide whether your body is ready for an intense session or if it is better to ease off.

To better manage one's stress

A sustained drop in HRV can signal an accumulation of fatigue or tension, whether physical or mental. It is an invitation to slow down and look after one's rest.

To follow a trend

An isolated measurement doesn't say much. It is the trend over several days, at a constant time and under constant conditions, that becomes meaningful.

The natural everyday levers

  • Sleep it's the number one lever. Sufficient duration and regular hours weigh more than any trick.
  • Consistency Going to bed and getting up at consistent times helps the body to find its rhythm.
  • Slow breathing A few minutes of calm breathing in the evening encourages relaxation before bed.
  • The bedroom environment darkness, coolness and silence form the basic trio for a comfortable night.
  • Training load alternating between intense sessions and rest periods prevents the accumulation of fatigue.
  • Evening stimulants coffee, alcohol and late screens often disrupt the perceived quality of sleep.

The place of IAKOTA products

IAKOTA mattress toppers are designed to support your sleep and recovery. Minoxis technology combines two passive physical mechanisms: the reflection of infrared rays naturally emitted by the body, and earthing, inspired by the principle of grounding. Without electronics, without a power source and without active substances.

In short, the idea is simple: to make your nights a more comfortable time to rest, without changing your habits at all.

What our measurements show. During a pilot study conducted at the CNEA in Font-Romeu with trail runners, a favourable change in HRV (RMSSD) was observed at 48 hours in the equipped group. This is a preliminary result based on a small sample size. More extensive research is underway until 2028 to confirm this, and we will publish the results whatever they may be.

How to make the most of it

  • Use the mattress topper every night: it's consistency that counts, not intensity.
  • Check that your socket is properly earthed. A tester costs just a few pounds and saves a lot of disappointment.
  • Combine it with good sleep hygiene: regular schedules, a dark and cool bedroom, and limited screen time in the evening.
  • If you track your HRV, look at the trend over several weeks rather than a single morning's value.

Improving your HRV does not rely on a miracle cure, but on a set of habits, of which sleep is the cornerstone. IAKOTA products fit into this approach: supporting your nights, regularly, without any extra effort.
