Petit Meunier x IAKOTA: bedding expertise meets Minoxis technology
A century-old French bedding manufacturer, a patented textile technology, and a mattress topper born from their encounter. Looking back at an industrial collaboration.
Sleep equipment is evolving today at the crossroads of two worlds: that of manufacturing expertise, and that of textile research applied to recovery. The partnership between Little Miller and IAKOTA fits precisely into this encounter. On the one hand, the expertise of a French bedding manufacturer, and on the other, the technical demands born of elite sport.
This article examines the industrial foundations of this collaboration, the principle of the Minoxis technology, and the product that resulted from it: the Surmatelas Terra Cocoon.
The Tonnerre workshops
All textile production for the range is centralised at a single industrial site, in Tonnerre, in Burgundy. All the processing and assembly stages take place within the workshops of Compagnie Dumas, the parent company of the Petit Meunier brand. More than forty bedding specialists work on the creation of these products, which are entirely manufactured in France.
The state-approved label Living Heritage Company attests to the production teams' mastery of specific processes, in particular envelope cutting and the distribution of fillings, whether in a natural down and feather version or a synthetic microfibre version.
This manufacturing precision is not a minor detail. It ensures dimensional stability, thermal comfort and the durability of the substrate, three essential conditions for being able to integrate additional technical components into it.
Minoxis technology
IAKOTA's contribution takes the form of patented Minoxis technology, integrated directly into the fabric. It is based on two entirely passive physical mechanisms: no electronics, no power source, and no active substance.
Earthing
Our modern lifestyles, between insulating soles, synthetic floors and raised beds, have broken the permanent contact with the ground that our ancestors naturally maintained. Minoxis technology draws on the conductive properties of minerals integrated into the textile to recreate this connection during the night, based on the principle of earthing.
The restitution of the infrareds
The human body is constantly emitting infrared radiation. The textile matrix passively interacts with this heat and return towards the sleeper. The over-mattress therefore produces nothing: it returns what the body already emits. The sought-after sensation is that of an enveloping thermal comfort, not that of an added source of heat.
A practical update. For earthing to work, the socket used must actually be connected to the earth. A socket tester costs just a few pounds and saves a lot of disappointment. This is the number one cause of it not working that we encounter in customer services.
The Surmatelas Terra Cocoon, in detail
Surmatelas Terra Cocoon is the concrete application of this combination of expertise. It has been designed to be placed on an existing mattress and modify its comfort without having to change the mattress.
Reception
The textile structure, recognisable by its check quilting inherited from Petit Meunier's expertise, ensures an even distribution of the high-density filling. This thickness helps to better distribute pressure points, particularly around the shoulders and pelvis, for a more enveloping sleep surface.
The technical layer
Located beneath the cover fabric, the Minoxis layer works continuously without altering contact comfort. It also helps regulate the bed's temperature by limiting sudden temperature fluctuations, which are often cited among the causes of nocturnal discomfort.
What you might feel
IAKOTA designs wellness products, not medical devices. We therefore make no claims to treat, relieve or cure anything. What users most frequently describe is:
- A cosier sleeping arrangement, with a better distribution of weight.
- Stable thermal comfort as the night goes on.
- A feeling of relaxation at bedtime.
- A more restful awakening, especially after busy periods.
These reviews are feelings, subjective by nature and varying from one person to another. That is also what makes them honest: sleep comfort is judged first and foremost by use.
What our measurements show
Beyond the way it felt, we wanted to measure it. In 2024, a pilot study was carried out at the CNEA in Font-Romeu with 27 trail running athletes, monitoring recovery following strenuous training sessions.
What these figures do not say. This is a pilot study involving a small sample size, and we do not present it as anything else. A doctoral thesis is currently underway at the CNEA until 2028 to take up this work again on a larger population. We will publish the results whatever they may be.
By combining the manufacturing methods of the Tonnerre workshops with Minoxis technology, the Surmatelas Terra Cocoon Petit Meunier x IAKOTA combines two requirements that are often opposed: traditional bedding and sports recovery. French know-how, at your service for a good night's sleep.
